Home Loan To-Do List - Prepared by American Home Mortgage

    Continued from previous page.

    1. Gather the documentation you are likely to need. When you submit your full mortgage application you will be asked to provide documentation to back up some pieces of information. Even the most organized among us often find ourselves having to chase down one or two documents, such as a bank statement (it is important to include all pages, even those left blank), form W-2, prior years' tax returns, or your most recent paystub. Since you might have to rely on others from an employee at your bank to someone in your employer's HR department it is good to ask for these items as far in advance of needing them as possible. As well meaning as they may be, your mortgage transaction will not be as important to anyone else as it is to you, and your AFR loan consultant of course!
    2. Tighten your budget and save a little extra money. Your credit application will always look stronger when you have more money saved. It is also helpful to have some wiggle room in case there are any unanticipated expenses, particularly if you are buying a new home.
